Joan Mitchell is the subject of a retrospective exhibition at SFMOMA on display through Jan. 17. Her intriguing and often large abstract works made her one of the few critically renowned female artists in the male-dominated art circles of late-20th Century New York. The SFMOMA show gives us a chance to view a wide range of Mitchell’s work.
Patricia Albers is a Bay Area writer, editor, and art historian. Her book Joan Mitchell: Lady Painter was the first biography of Mitchell. Since its publication in 2011, she has lectured widely about Mitchell and her art. Albers will join Anna Ewins and Rodney Paul to discuss the exhibition and Mitchell’s career.
